A parable of the straight path…

by Umm Muawiyah

Assalamu Alaikum.

A parable to reflect upon…

An-Nawwas ibn Saman Al-Kilabi (radiallhu anhu) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (salallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “Indeed Allah has made a parable of the straight path:

At the sides of the path there are walls with open doors, each door having a curtain. There is a caller at the head of the path calling, and a caller above it calling: “And Allah invites to the abode of peace and guides whomever He wills to the straight path.” [Surah Yunus (10) : 25]

The doors which are on the sides of the path are the huhud (legal limitations) of Allah; no one breaches the hudud of Allah except that that curtain is lifted, and the one calling from above it is his Lord. [Sunan At-Tirmidhi, Hadeeth No. 2859. Grade “sahih” by Al-Albani in Sahih Sunan At-Tirmidhi, Hadeeth No. 2859]

Umm Muawiyah’s Summary: All roads may lead to Rome but only one road leads to Paradise. You can’t have it all so please choose: this world or the hereafter.*

[*Of course, the whole irony is that those who sincerely strive for the hereafter also get this world but the ones who strive for this world get bupkis.]

But it gets SO difficult sometimes. I am sure the whole point is to keep on going back to the deen. Self discipline is so hard to practise. may He swt make it easy on all.

may He swt bless you for the daily reminders

      Assalamu Alaikum Sister.

Firstly, please accept my apologies for not replying to your earlier comments. I’ll try to do so later today, insha-Allah.

Secondly, yes, it is difficult and there is a wisdom behind that. I was going to put a long reply here but then I decided that my next post will be about this issue and how we can overcome it, insha-Allah.

Thirdly, ameen to your dua and may Allah grant you the same and more. Jazakillahu kheira for all your comments. They were very encouraging.
