Change that you can believe in…

Assalamu Alaikum.

[Remember that awful slogan?]

We keep hoping for “real change”. We pin our hopes on this person and that person. However, when we look around, we see that, as an ummah (nation), we are still in such a sorry state.

And the Prophet (salallahu alaihi wasallam) predicted this and told us its reason as well as its solution:

إذا تبايعتم بالعينة وأخذتم أذناب البقر ، ورضيتم بالزرع ، وتركتم الجهاد سلط الله عليكم ذلا لا ينزعه حتى ترجعوا إلى دينكم

Ibn Umar (radiallahu anhu) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (salallahu alaihi wasallam): “When you enter into eenah* transactions, take hold of the tails of cattle, are content with farming and you forsake jihad, Allah will cause humiliation to prevail over you and will not withdraw it until you return to your religion.” [Sunan Abee Dawood, Hadeeth No. 3462. [*According to the Darussalam translation of Sunan Abee Dawood: Eenah transactions means to sell something for a price to be paid at a later date, then to buy it back later for a lower price (to be paid immediately); this is a trick used to circumvent the prohibition on lending with interest.]

You might be thinking “I have no cattle!”
