Okay, that was the original purpose of this blog. However, it’s now turned into a sort of “Let’s keep that Ramadan spirit alive” blog.

Eh, you say? One more time then. I may upload a lecture by Person A. This does not necessarily mean that I fully agree with everything Person A has to say. I agree with that particular lecture but it doesn’t mean that I agree with other things that Person A has said in other lectures.

The Greatest Month 
Alors, this is a wonderful blog; but if you shall allow me to go on a tangent; why are you called Umm Muawiyah? This implies that you have/will name your son Muawiyah? There is a reason that name is not popular with Muslims; he was one of the reasons that caused the split between Sunni and Shia! Even if I just copy this from Wikipedia (the section of the article I copy is well-sourced):
“Muawiyah I is a reviled figure in Shia Islam for several reasons. Firstly, because of his involvement in the Battle of Siffin against Ali … secondly, for the breaking of the treaty he made with Hasan ibn Ali, after the death of Hassan ibn Ali, one of broken terms being appointing his son Yazid as his successor; thirdly, on account of his responsibility for the killing of Hasan ibn Ali by alluring his wife Ja’dah binte Ash’as to poison him; … fourthly by distorting Islam to match his unislamic rule … and fifthly, for the deaths of various Companions of Muhammad.”

There are plenty of fine names to pick from; why choose a name that means so much pain to so many people?
I hope you forgive me for detracting so much. Otherwise this is a fine blog and I wish it success and for the maker of it success and for the readers of it success and for those who act upon the advice it shares, success.

Muawiyah is a wonderful name, because it belongs to a wonderful man. Unlike us, he (radiallahu anhu) accompanied the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam), fought alongside him and was one of those who would write down the wahy (revelation).
He was NOT one of the reasons for the split, rather the hypocrites were the reason for that. along with a man called Abdullah ibn Saba, a Jew who pretended to become Muslim.
And no, he was not a reviled figure. Why should I rely on what Wikipedia says (when it is known to have many mistakes) when we have so many narrations from the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam), the other Companions (radiallahu anhum) and the Muslim historians about how how nice he was? He was renowned for this and for his justice.
The Shia have slandered him (because he opposed Ali (radiallahu anhu) in an issue), the way they slandered the other Sahabaah. So I could care less what they have to say. Even Aisha (radiallahu anha), for whom Allah revealed some verses in Surah An-Noor, is not safe from their tongues!!
As for any mistakes that he may have made, then we do not delve into the mistakes of any of the Sahaabah as the scholars have stated.
As for why I chose this name, well, ironically it was for this very reason: that people know so little about him. I wanted someone to ask me about this great companion of the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) so I could defend him.
I too used to have a confusion about him but when I did my research I found the truth behind the lies. So I hope that you too do your research so that you can uncover the truth behind the lies.

Thank you for your reply. I have just seen it. Yes, it was stupid of me to quote wikipedia. I admit, I don’t know much about this issue. I don’t think I’ll be able to go out and research this topic, but at least I have learnt that there are positive (rather than neutral or negative) opinions about this companion.
