Ramadan events in the UAE

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamu Alaikum.

1) Events in Dubai

Every year, Dubai holds a Ramadan Forum, which includes lectures in different languages and a whole bunch of other stuff.

This year, the theme is “A Breeze of Mercy”.

Here’s the link:

Here’s the events schedule:

There are Arabic, English, Urdu, Malayalam and Tagalog lectures (here’s the schedule). [Just click the Arabic link for the Arabic lectures.]

Oh and they even produce a nice (Islamic) magazine every year:

[The first half of the Sixth Edition is in Arabic and the second half is in English.]

Note#1: As with all things Dubai, the magazine is filled with advertisements. Sigh.

Note#2: As with all things Dubai, the Ramadan Forum offers absolutely smashing prizes if you register.

2) Events in Sharjah and Khor Fakkan

[Technically speaking, Khor Fakkan is part of Sharjah.]

Every year, various scholars and shaikhs come to give lectures. You can download the schedule here.

The lectures are recorded and uploaded here.

Please pass on the word.

Baarakallahu feekum.

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamu Alaikum.

Well then, you need to bring them to the following lecture entitled: “Why Ramadan is important to Non-Muslims”

Here’s the location map.

You can contact them at:

Tel: +971 4 394 9461

Please forward this to all the non-Muslims that you know (in Dubai and thereabouts) as this is an excellent opportunity for them to understand what Ramadan is all about.

Another Ramadan 2012 Prep Event for Sisters in Dubai…

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamu Alaikum.

Yes, another day, another event. For sisters in Dubai, that is.

[However, this centre does transmit many of their classes on Wiziq (for sisters only) so if sisters outside the UAE are interested in listening, they should contact them directly on their website mentioned below.]

Our very own Eman Al-Obaid, may Allah reward her, has a few talks coming up. [And one of them is actually going to be in Arabic at a time when I’m free. I’m stunned.]

Here’s the schedule from the Al-Huda Sisters blog:

Sunday & Monday (15th & 16th July): 9am-10:30am

*Ramadan with Faith*

Sunday Evening (15th July): 7:30pm – 9:30pm

*Ramadan: Means and Goals*

Location @ the Markaz, Umm Suqeim 2, Al Thanya Street, Villa 29

Tuesday, 17th July

8:30-10am:  Ramadan: A Symbol of True Servitude to Allah (Al Ubodiyyah) (in English)

10am-11:30am:  قلب الصائم (in Arabic)

Location: Al Nahdah, Dubai Women’s Association (Near Dubai Hospital)

For more information, please read this.

Once again, please contact them for all the details and not me.

Please pass on the word so more sisters can benefit, insha-Allah.

Baarakallahu feekunn.

Ramadan 2012 Prep Event for Sisters in Dubai

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamu Alaikum.

Still not prepared for Ramadan?

Well, sisters in Dubai (and thereabouts) could try to attend this lecture by Dr. Mamdouh Mohamed (a very qualified man who we in Dubai have underutilized!):

[Click on the picture to enlarge the image.]

Note: I don’t have any information about this (other than what’s on the flyer) so please do not ask me. You may call the number mentioned in the flyer.

Please remember to pass on the word.

Baarakallahu feekunn.

The Ramadan Forum (in Dubai)

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamu Alaikum.

I mentioned this one last year (it’s a yearly event).

They have lectures in Arabic (this is an Arab country, you know), English, Tagalog and Malayalam.

Here’s the website:

To all Filipinos and Filipinas: Yes, the tagalog lecture is by Brother Omar Penalbar!

[And no, I’m not kabayan.]

To all non-Filipinos and non-Filipinas: Last year, at this event, 125 Filipinos embraced Islam after one of his lectures. Allahu Akbar. Here’s the article.

Arabic lectures during Ramadan

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamu Alaikum.

For those like me, who prefer to listen to Arabic lectures, here are two places which will have lectures in Arabic (after the Taraweeh prayers).

[Want English? I’ve mentioned some here.]

[Note to those outside the Emirates: All the lectures are being broadcast live so you can listen in. We are +4 GMT and the adhan of Isha is at 8:40pm so Taraweeh might tend at 10:30 pm, insha-Allah.

The broadcast link is mentioned in each flyer. The link in the second flyer ( will probably upload all the lectures the day after they take place, insha-Allah.]

[Click on the images to enlarge their sizes.]

Ramadan Prep Events

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

Assalamu Alaikum.

For those of you who’d like to give themselves an iman boost, here are some Ramadan Prep events:

[Note: I didn’t mention some “famous” prep events due to various reasons.]

Completely related question: Why does everyone always wait until a week before Ramadan to do these prep events? Isn’t that pretty late???

1) Knowledge International University is offering two FREE courses.

The first is entitled the “Fiqh of Fasting” and is going to start at the end of July.

The second is called “Good Manners” and is going to be taught in August.

For more information, you may keep a close eye on their Facebook page.

Why did I start with this event? Because unlike all the others, it is taught by a real scholar.

And no, I’m not putting anybody down. I’m just tired of every Muhammad, Abdullah and Ali being called a scholar.

[Even I have been called a scholar. Thrice!!! Subhan Allah, if an ignorant person like me can be called a scholar, then that means the Muslim ummah (nation) is in serious trouble.]

Home Sweet Home (Dubai)

1) Al Huda Sisters has a really nice bunch of classes (for sisters) geared towards preparing one for Ramadan.

You can find all the information on their blog.

The classes are on Wiziq as well (only for sisters) but you need to contact them for more information.

2) Dr. Muhammad Al-Jibaly is in town (yes, that Muhammad Al-Jibaly) for a Ramadan prep event called “The Essence of Ramadan”.

It’s this Friday (July 29th), insha-Allah. You can find out more here.

3) Kalemah Centre is offering a bunch of Ramadan prep lectures in various masjids around Dubai.

Most of these lectures are in Urdu though. The schedule can be found here.

4) Al Manar Quran Study Centre is offering a “Ramadan Majlis” i.e. a bunch of lectures during Ramadan.

The lectures are in English, Tagalog*, Urdu and Malayalam.

[*No, I don’t know if Brother Omar Penalbar is coming. The last Ramadan he came, about 125 Phillipinos became Muslims in one night, subhan Allah!]

Here’s the website.

Iftar with Dubai Holy Quran Award contestants TONIGHT in Dubai

Assalamu Alaikum.

My apologies for the late notice.

The Dubai International Holy Quran Award is a yearly competition sponsored by the Government of Dubai in order to encourage people to memorise the Quran. Learn more about it here.

The Jumeirah Islamic Learning Centre has invited some of the contestants over for a discussion.

This is a great opportunity, especially for those brothers who are serious about memorising the Quran*.

[Silly question: Why isn’t EVERYBODY serious about memorising the Quran? Allah clearly states that that He has made it easy to remember, so why are the majority of Muslims not interested?

Question to you, the reader: Are you interested in memorising the Quran? If not, then WHY NOT?]

Here’s the email that I received:

Assalaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah Wa Barakatuh
